On this day in 1933, the Black Cloud of Death was lifted from our midst. Yes, I am speaking of Prohibition. Between the years of 1919 and 1933, no one had a reason to live, but that was all changed with the Blaine Act which allowed "3.2 Beer".
Hooray for Blaine.
Khalid Abdul Muhammad, a normal, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam spokesperson passed away on this date in 2001 of a brain aneurysm. He was kicked out of the NOI by Louis Farrakhan in 1993 and was shot at a speaking engagement shortly thereafter by James Bess, another former NOI member. Muhammad has been notably featured by the hip-hop group Public Enemy on the intro to their song "Night of the Living Bassheads".
Oh, and an obscure basketball player named Michael Jordan was born on this day in 1963.
