This little tidbit of information rarely gets reported, but for some reason, I know it.
FACT: In 1954, there were only a dozen armed robberies in London but, by the 1990s, there were more than a hundred times as many.
What caused this drastic increase in crime with guns?
Your answer will dictate the amount of time that you have for recess.

Simple, they outlawed guns and only the Police and the bad guys had guns after that. I know, ask an old guy trivia and they probably lived through that era. When they pry my gun out of my cold fingers... MUD
I don't get it.
Um. so outlawing guns makes people use guns to rob places?
That's stupid. Sorry... dumb logic.
Doesn't make sense.. and if it doesn't make sense it usually isn't true.
Don't get it? How could you not get it? First, it has nothing to do with logic...we're talking crime here. Second, outlawing guns didn't make people start robbing places. Those who choose to rob places are gonna do that anyway. Ya' know why? Cause they're criminals. It's what they do.
The only dumb logic is for someone to think that because something is illegal that people will no longer do it.
RaeJane, the minute that you disarm the law-abiding, the criminals go crazy because they know that no one can fight back. Every single incident of campus shooting has happened in a gun free zone. The criminals know that no one can protect themselves.
The logic is overwhelming. Making something against the law does one thing, raises the cost of doing that business, so crime and profits go up, never down. It is only proven in every single circumstance.
Government subsidized housing complexes are always "gun-free" zones and suffer through the most violent crime of any place. And walking that truth line is going to lead to a big topic in Blackuary.
Well.. with THAT logic.. don't ban abortion cause well, then EVERYBODY will be begging to have them.
raejane, it isn't paranoia if they really are out to get you. A lack of understanding is not a cause to celebrate that an idea might have some merit. Quite frankly, disarm the people and crime rises because no one can defend themselves. Look at the states where that have passed concealed carry. The crime stats are down because you never know if the guy you are mugging is armed.
Your logic is fuzzy, Raejane. Have another drink.
I got this to say, Washington DC has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. Alexandria is seven miles from DC, just across the river in Virginia and has one of the lowest. DC has 1325.3 violent crimes per 100,000 people per year. Alexandria has less than 4 per 100,000 people per year. Seven miles apart and there is only one difference between the two cities.
And it ain't the fact that DC spends three times more per student per year either. And no, I did not know that until tonight, but it is odd.
I never said that you were for outlawing guns, but you first comment on this post did seem like you didn't understand why crime exploded in Great Britain.
My post asked what happened to make crime explode, MUD said, "They outlawed guns."
And you said, "I don't get it. Um. so outlawing guns makes people use guns to rob places? That's stupid. Sorry... dumb logic.
Doesn't make sense.. and if it doesn't make sense it usually isn't true."
The whole point is not that outlawing guns makes crime go up, it makes criminals not afraid of getting killed, so THEN crime goes up.
See?
maybe we should just put all the criminals to death.
then there'd be no problem.
sleep easy, keep door unlocked..
as you can see, I'm still in a pissy mood.
I need wine...
oh.. and shut up, gnut.
But, you do understand the point, right?
And do you not want crime to go down instead of just waiting for someone to commit a crime before locking them up?
If strapping a pistol to my belt makes criminals stop hurting people, I think that it is worth it.
Oh, Hell, who am I trying to kid, I just want to shoot someone.
