Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Freedom of the press and speech also has another side to it. They are to be completely autonomous and should be kept in place to limit the reach of the government. Since they have refused to do their duty and everyone that has money to exchange for their product has ceased to buy their product, they now want government to FUND them? The FIRST AMENDMENT includes FREEDOM TO FAIL.
IF you want the newspapers to continue to operate to provide the function of newspapers, you better start screeching about them starting to provide that which they are supposed to do. If you give them money from the government, what do you think that they shall publish? They won't bite the hand that feeds them, people.

the newspaper industry is changing, that's for sure, but bailouts are not a good part of whatever change they are making. talk about conflict of interest. gheesh. you're right, they won't bite the hand that feeds them, and there's already enough behind the scenes control of the media in all forms.
government controlled news ends up being nothing but propaganda, my first thought is of the newspapers from the USSR during the cold war.
That's it. I quit blogging. You keep putting up this stuff which should be self-friggin' evident, and I find myself with a drooling, bemused look on my face wondering, "Why didn't I think of that?!"

Christina Jade, since you brought it up, those people that were peddling the propaganda for the USSR are the very same people that are publishing newspapers in this country.
Steve, not to toot my own horn, but I have more time to concentrate on things than most people. Since I am self-employed with no small children underfoot, I can actually have a moment for stuff to sink in without flying into a white hot homicidal rage. Trust me, that is a good thing.
