In the midst of the Arizona-caused Constitutional crisis regarding illegal Mexicans, Democrats thought that it would be a really good idea to ADD A NEW FREAKING STATE!!!
Wonder why?
There is a really simple answer, normal people are sick of the Mexicans coming here and abusing the system, getting free education, medical services, houses, food, and clothing, so Democrats knew that tit was about to run dry. They simply cannot add Mexico as a state because the dictators and drug lords there would not stand for it, so Puerto Rico it was.
Democrats KNOW they are going to get trounced in the polls this November, so they have to come up with any kind of way to stay in power. Trust me, they are going to rush this Puerto Rican statehood vote through in record time to have those folks ready to show up at the polling places by November.
Why do you think that is? Because Puerto Ricans DO NOT WORK. When I was there in 2001, the stats were startling. San Juan actually is in worse shape than Detroit. I am NOT KIDDING. In 2001, more than sixty percent (+60%) of the population of the island was on some type of welfare and less than three percent (-3%) paid any taxes at all. Guess where the money comes from to support THOSE UNITED STATES CITIZENS? Yeppers, from you and me.
Do you want to know what Puerto Rico is actually called by those in the know? WELFARE ISLAND. Currently, Puerto Rico uses over six percent (6%) of all US federal dollars for food subsidy. This puts them FIRMLY ABOVE the District of Columbia in WELFARE, by a HUGE margin.
But, of course, they shall get to vote. Who do you think that Puerto Ricans will support? You get ONE FREAKING GUESS.
Here, you read this post on puertorico.com and tell me what YOU think.
Please tell me of any other reason that Congressional Democrats would bring this up NOW. Come on, I know that you can produce a reason.
You know, since we are about to take on a hugely uneducated population to raise, what do you think that we can do to give them areas to pick up a check? Nothing, we already have the damned illegal Mexicans here. And you know why so many of those uneducated workers are on the federal dole? Because Obama and the Democrats have slaughtered the construction industry that COULD employ unskilled and uneducated workers. The construction industry is currently experiencing an unemployment rate of OVER twenty-seven percent (+27).
But, let's take on some more deadbeats to raise, y'all. Nothing could go wrong, huh?
And do NOT get me started on the Democrats' legislation to destroy our banking system. Here's the links to that crap.
Big Government.
Zero Hedge.
Washington Examiner.
Rightwing News.
How about we add a bunch of crap to the "healthcare" law that DEMANDS small business owners start producing 1099s for any expenditure over 600 bucks a year?
People, at some point, the tar and feathers HAVE to come out. They simply HAVE to.

Dems gotta keep doing screwy crap with their left hand so we don't notice what their right hand is doing to us.
Small businesses issuing billions of 1099's a year...more jobs for IRS and contractors selling new sucky/buggy software.
On the other hand actually I see an opportunity for small business owners....think legalzoom.com. That is in the process of helping destroy lawyer jobs, which is a good thing of course. So this 1099 law is another opportunity for the right new business... think 1099zoom.com. Enter in your data and the service does the rest. Generates and mails 1099s to your vendor and IRS and keeps all the records for later downloading or pay extra for failsafe permanent storage.
Why are you always look at the bad side of things? Turn that frown upside down and turn those lemons into lemonade. I see a golden opportunity here.
Roderick
I support Puerto Rican statehood - but only because there's more people in PR than in quite a few states that already exist in the union (eg Wyoming). They are part of the US.
Moreover I think that there's a huge chance for both political parties to get involved there - so it will benefit both.
PR is poor, after all, so it is in the same sort of league as most "red states" like Miss.
I don't think PR statehood will be pushed through before November. Sorry to mess with your conspiracy theory.
But what about a post on DC statehood? I can't wait for that one!
innominatus, yes I agree, they gotta do the shell game to hide their crap.
Roderick, I hope a bunch of folks start a bunch of 1099zoom.coms to pay for all the additional IRS folks that are going to be needed to process all those 1099s. And there are going to be thousands, too.
OSO, Mississippi is totally blue, true we voted for McCain, but nearly every official in our state is a Democrat, remember, we are still under a federal government racism order and only Democrats are racist.
I do not have a conspiracy theory, yet, but our Constitution expressly prohibits DC every having a vote in Congress. If you support statehood for Puerto Rico, then y'all take 'em.
Whatever happens to PR needs to change their current circumstance. They either need to become a state of the US or they need to become their own country. Remaining as they are now is stupid IMHO.
I agree wholeheartedly because as it stands now, the vast majority of them are getting US handouts and the very few Puerto Ricans that actually work are not paying for their fellow Puerto Ricans. It is called "stealing" where I am from.
Mississippi voted for:
Roosevelt in 1932
Roosevelt in 1936
Roosevelt in 1940
Roosevelt in 1944
Strom Thurmond in 1948
Stevenson in 1952
Stevenson in 1956
Kennedy in 1960
Barry Goldwater in 1964
George Wallace in 1968
Nixon in 1972
Carter in 1976
Reagan in 1980
Reagan in 1984 (who didn't?)
Bush in 1988
Bush in 1992 (Perot only got 10.6%)
Bob Dole in 1996
George W Bush in 2000
George W Bush in 2004
John McCain in 2008
So the last time a Dem was voted for in Miss was in 1976, and the last time it was consistent was 1960 and before.
I think any DC statehood decision would require a constitutional amendment.
One solution is "retrocession", which would involve DC being ceded back to Maryland and then applying for statehood immediately afterward.
OSO, I appreciate your utter lack of knowledge about our government since you do not live here. MS, a STATE, is run by Democrats, the president is over our COUNTRY.
MS is deeply BLUE.
Paul,
You said
"OSO, Mississippi is totally blue, true we voted for McCain"
All I'm pointing out is that Miss has been voting for Republican presidential candidates since 1980.
OSO, you said Mississippi was red and that is untrue. ALL of the poor STATES are run by Democrats, in case you did not know this. I actually posted on that not long ago, too. Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi are ALL blue states even if none of them will ever vote for another Democrat for president after the calamity that was Jimmy Carter.
OSO thinks we should absorb yet another welfare state, eh? How generous the libtard is with our money.
Of course, the angle on this is as clear as can be: the Dems have offered this gambit a number of times in the past, and each time it has failed, both here AND in PR, where it is NOT the desire of the majority.
However this time, the libtards are going whole hog since they no longer care about the Constitution, truth or ethics: the House passed a garbage bill (2499 or something like that) that if signed by Barry the Usurper, will put the thing to a pair of votes in PR. And it's not a majority vote that matters: the way the libtards rigged is if 34% vote for statehood, 33% vote for independence, and 33% vote for status quo, the 34% will decide on statehood.
What are the Dumbasscraps after -- besides violence from the ignored 66%? Two senate seats and 8 -- yup, 8 -- US House seats, which the libtards reckon will all go Dumbasscrap.
Since the US House is capped at 435 seats, those 8 seats will have to be taken from other states. Care to guess how that will be apportioned, if the libtards can retain power by hook or crook in '10?
The marxist mentality is rapidly not even trying to hide behind the bad Baghdad Bob Gibbs press conferences anymore.
The Democrat Party is dead. The Dumbasscrap Party will kill the rest of us, if allowed to survive the '10 and '12 votes.
If Mississippi is so wonderfully Democrat why has there been a landslide election for every Republican presidential candidate since 1980?
Could it have something to do with conservatism?
You guys voted for George Wallace.
You guys voted for Strom Thurmond.
The Dems in Mississippi are conservatives. They've stayed that way to get votes.
Maybe Mississippi needs liberals to run them? You know, like the liberals who run rich states like Massachusetts or Vermont or Washington.
Travers Childers - Blue Dog.
Bennie Thompson - Probably Liberal.
Gregg Harper - Republican.
Gene Taylor - Blue Dog.
3/4 conservative. Therefore red.
"Okay, apart from the two Democrat congressmen who are conservative, the one Republican congressman, the two Republican Senators, the long history of voting for Republican presidential candidates in a landslide, the Republican governor, the Republican lieutenant governor, Republican secretary of state, the Republican auditor and the Republican treasurer, Mississippi is a state dominated by Democrats"
- It's just too easy Paul.
Congressional vote on Obamacare:
Childers - No (Blue Dog Democrat)
Thompson - Yes (Democrat)
Harper - No (Republican)
Taylor - No (Blue Dog Democrat)
OSO, please try to contain yourself. But, let me TRY to get this straight. You live WHERE exactly and I live WHERE exactly? I have lived in Mississippi for 45 YEARS and you are trying to tell me what Mississippi is like? How many times have you been here?
Now, let me say this on the Gay Killing Bill. ANYONE that voted FOR it is what is known as a MORON. I am deleting your comment about that because it makes you look even dumber than you are, IF THAT IS POSSIBLE.
Secondly, for someone to say Bennie Thompson MAY be liberal puts them firmly in the dumbass camp so far that Cynthia McKinney is more intelligent.
Thirdly, in case you did not know this, the FUCKING KKK used to run my state. And since you obviously have ZERO knowledge of the Klan, it is a part of the DEMOCRAT Party. The very reason Mississippi voted for Wallace and Thurman (a DEMOCRAT at the time, 1948) was because the FUCKING KLAN ran our state, then.
Fourthly, Travis Childers is a liberal moonbat, the ONLY reason that he votes the way that he does is because it is the only way that he can get elected. He voted for Nancy Pelosi for speaker, OSO, that kinda tells intelligent people what is going on.
Fifthly, Gene Taylor is the only GOOD Democrat in the entire United States of America, yet he abstained in voting for speaker.
And sixthly, you posted all of the Republican state elected officials. Yes, I am very well aware. BECAUSE I FUCKING LIVE HERE.
Now, since you know literally NOTHING about the government in our country, I shall let you in on it. In our country, we have things known as CITIES, then we have COUNTIES, then STATES, and finally the federal government.
In Mississippi, our state house, which is our state government body that appropriates money, is controlled by Democrats and has never had a Republican majority EVER. We have 82 counties in Mississippi, of which only THREE are controlled by Republicans, guess which are our three richest counties with the lowest unemployment? Over eighty percent of local elected officials in our state are DEMOCRATS.
I'll let you in on another secret. I live in Rankin County, in the city of Brandon. There are ZERO elected Democrats in our entire county. We also have the highest median income and the lowest unemployment in the state. We border Hinds County that has never elected a Republican except for one city council member ONCE, wonder what JACKSON, the state capital and also in Hinds County, looks like? Yes, it is a shithole.
Wonder what the area where "probably liberal" Bennie Thompson (MS-2) represents looks like? How about the POOREST district in the entire United States with close to the highest unemployment in our country?
You see, OSO, you might think that your arguments make sense and it is "too easy," as you put it, but the people that KNOW what they are talking about KNOW that you have no clue.
Please stick with explaining how boomerangs work or the mating habits of the Koala bear, you clearly have no grasp on politics in the United States.
Paul, I think your friend OSO has finally decided to jump the abo' and totally display his abysmal ignorance on a libtard (aka, massive) level.
TD, OSO is a waste of time. She has more than once occupied WAY too much of my energy.
She will never quit until you finally ignore her. She has no bearing whatsoever on the future of America. She is just an agitator.
Okay...now, my rememberer is not real good these days. But, it seems to me that RayGun was a big advocate of Statehood for Puerto Rico. Like I say...my memory is fuzzy...but it seems that I remember Ronny advocating strongly for it (probably figuring that the quicker they actually became Americans, the quicker they would catch "the dream," not just the baseball.
I have also read a few blog posts that say this deal is "rigged," and that PR will have no choice. Crud...let me go find it...
Okay, I'm back. Here is a quote:
"Alex Castellanos’ post discussing the Puerto Rico Democracy Act (HR 2499) correctly points out that “the principles of democracy, inclusiveness, and self-determination belong to all U.S. citizens.” What he misses, however, is the Puerto Rican government’s plan to rig their election by eliminating the commonwealth option in their next series of self-determination elections.
Puerto Ricans have rejected statehood in the last three self-determination elections, and independence is extremely unpopular. The strategy to virtually eliminate as an option for voters Puerto Rico’s current status as a commonwealth, leaving only independence and statehood as options, will all but guarantee a statehood landslide. The plan is spelled out in their legislation (pp. 7-8) and can be found here. The New Progressive Party (PNP), which is pro-statehood, controls all branches of government. There is little doubt that this bill would become law soon after the U.S. Congress passes the Puerto Rico Democracy Act."

And let me once again encourage you Paul to ignore OSO. She does not live here. She does not know what WE know about real politics in the Southern US.
She will never cast a vote that will EVER have any impact on our lives. And, she will never influence anyone to do so.
She is kinda' like what the fly left on the pump handle.
I'm sure she's a lovely gal and all. But, I'm finished with her myself. Just sayin'...
